Disney World has released new details and images of its upcoming gondola transportation system, the Skyliner.

The Skyliner will transport guests between Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and select resorts via ski lift-like capsules connected to an overhead cable.

Disney says the design of the Skyliner station at Epcot will be an 18th-century art-nouveau style, following in the theme of nearby European pavilions. The station will have glass, metal and steel structures with murals.

The Hollywood Studios station will look like the park's entrance and bus stations.

The Caribbean Beach Resort station will be the Skyliner's transfer hub, where riders can switch routes. The design will be themed after a Caribbean village marketplace, with bright color schemes in line with the surrounding resort buildings. The Pop Century and Art of Animation resorts will share a station.

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim earlier this year, Disney officials said the Skyliner would also connect to a new, unnamed hotel.

The Skyliner's turn station, meanwhile, will be on Buena Vista Drive.

Some of the cabins, which hold about 10 people each, will feature Disney characters on their exterior design so that the characters appear to be mingling with riders.

A similar gondola system existed at Magic Kingdom until 1999. The Skyway connected Fantasyland and Tomorrowland. Those capsules were open-air, while the Skyliner's cabins will be enclosed.

Disney hasn't said when The Skyliner would go online, but it's likely to be 2019. That’s when Disney plans to open its Star Wars expansion at Hollywood Studios.
