A major power outage at Disneyland in California trapped people on rides as large areas of the park shut down Wednesday.

Disneyland officials said a transformer issue caused all of Mickey's Toontown and parts of Fantasyland at Disneyland to stop operations during a busy day in the holiday season.

About a dozen attractions went offline. Guests were safely escorted off the rides, but some waited for extended periods.

Geoff Fienberg said he was trapped in near-darkness on "It's A Small World" for almost 30 minutes — while the theme song played over and over.

"That will be in most of our heads probably for the following year," he said. "But everyone was calm."

Disneyland had to stop admitting guests Wednesday afternoon and was only "accepting guests for re-entry," the park said.

Christmas week is extremely busy for Disney theme parks, attracting more crowds as children are out of school and adults on break from work.

This was the second time a major power outage caused a change of plans for people this holiday season. Two weeks ago, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta the busiest in the world, lost all electricity for almost 11 hours, forcing the cancellation of 1,000 flights.

Information from CNN was used in this report.
