After more than 11 hours in the dark, power has been restored to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, but it is still causing many issues, especially for Florida.

Atlanta is one of the busiest airports in the world and has lots of flights to and from Orlando and Tampa daily.

Looking at the flight boards at Orlando International Airport and Tampa International Airport, things are slowly getting back on track after the power returned in Atlanta just before midnight.

However, for the hours the power was off, the entire flying community could only watch and wait.

The power at Hartsfield-Jackson went out just after 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Atlanta’s Mayor Kasim Reed says a fire caused the massive outage and also damaged backup systems that are designed to keep the lights and essential power on during an emergency.

More than 1,100 flights had to be cancelled there and that caused a ripple effect across the country. Travelers at OIA and Tampa's airport were affected because Atlanta is a major hub for airlines. That left passengers waiting and wondering if they would ever get to take off.

"Well it was delayed 30 mins, 1 hour, 2 hours, indefinitely and then just canceled,” said Ziggy Fulton, a would-be passenger at OIA.

However, since the power was restored at the Hartsfield-Jackson airport, flights resumed shortly thereafter. That means the backups will slowly, but surely be getting back on track as well.
