A video of a pep rally at Lake Mary High School in Seminole County has gone viral, all because the school’s principal "stepped up" to make a statement about unity.

Principal Mickey Reynolds danced along with her school’s step team, and a video of the dance has racked up more than 3 million views on Facebook and YouTube.

The newest dance team at the school is called Unity Revolution, a step team. Step dancing is deeply rooted in African-American culture. Many traditionally black colleges have sororities and fraternities with competitive step teams.

But now step dancing is stepping into the mainstream with multicultural teams sprouting up at local high schools. Unity Revolution is one of those teams looking to make a cultural difference.

At a recent pep rally, Unity Revolution took to the gym floor for their routine, with a special guest performer – the school’s principal.

When Reynolds began to step and students went wild.

The video, recorded by a parent, has gone viral with around 3 million internet hits between Facebook and YouTube.

Reynolds says she hopes her little performance will make a big difference with kids and adults alike when it comes to acceptance and unity.
