It's the most wonderful time of the year, and the owners of the Historic Stetson Mansion in DeLand are opening the doors for a true Christmas Spectacular.

The moment you step inside the mansion for the holiday tours, you'll be greeted by extravagant decorations and the spirit of the holiday season.

J.T. Thompson is one of the owners and head designer of the mansion that was originally built in 1886. For the past seven years, Thompson has opened the doors for the public to enjoy. Thompson does all of the designing and decorating himself.

"I close down the mansion, everyone gets thrown out for six weeks, and I take over the entire place," Thompson said.

Thompson also never repeats the décor. This year's theme includes a true Victorian Christmas.

He said the Christmas Holiday is very near and dear to his heart.

"I grew up in the projects of North New Jersey so I did not have Christmas's like this," he said. "It was quite the contrary. There were never tons of gifts under the tree or lots of decorations," Thompson said.

No matter where you came from, Thompson said he wants every Stetson Mansion visitor to feel like they're home for the holidays.

"I want them to leave here with not just your packaged Christmas. I want them to leave here with the thought of what Christmas's were and really take back with them the true spirit of Christmas," he said.

The Stetson Mansion offers three tours daily through Jan. 15. It's located on Camphor Lane in Deland which is in Volusia County.
