A 19-year-old man was shot multiple times Monday night outside Seminole Towne Center Mall, authorities say.

The shooting reportedly happened around 7:40 p.m. at 200 Towne Center Circle in a parking lot near Burlington Coat Factory. 

Sanford Police and Seminole County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and evacuated the mall. The shooter fled the area in a black four-door vehicle and is still at large. He is described as a black male, approximately 5-feet-10-inches to 11-inches tall.

"Based on the initial investigation, what we have right now is that the victim is possibly known to the shooter -- that the victim was in the parking lot and the shooter was in the parkling lot with a group of other individuals when the shooting occured," said Bianca Gillett with the Sanford Police Department.

Police say they're still gathering information from witnesses on the group of individuals who were with the alleged shooter. According to Gillett, they fled into the mall through the Burlington Coat Factory entrance.

There are no reports of any additional injuries or victims. 

The man shot was transported to an area hospital in critical condition but is now stabilizing, officials say.
