A Lake Mary High School teacher is more than halfway through an enormous physical feat – a swim from Sanford to Jacksonville.

Spectrum News 13 talked to Luther Davis last week as he hiked with his students from his Longwood backyard to the water’s edge.

On Saturday he jumped into the water to begin his 164-mile swim up the St. Johns River.

Davis says it’s not just to accomplish a physical feat over spring break – but to also show his students how the value of Florida’s natural water source.

The storms that moved through Florida this week did delay Davis’s trip – but he’s now back on track to reach Jacksonville by this weekend.

Davis should reach the Palatka area by the end of Wednesday.
