The University of Central Florida has placed its chapter of the Sigma Pi Fraternity under interim suspension after two of their pledges were allegedly involved in an incident that caused an evacuation.

According to an incident report, one of the alleged pledges, who was wearing a LeBron James jersey, stood up in a classroom in the Business Administration I building Wednesday and threw white powder into the air.

The second pledge reportedly was responsible for filming the incident on his iPhone.

Both men fled the classroom, and both the classroom and building were evacuated out of caution.

The powder was later identified as powered baby formula.

When officers identified the men, both pledges admitted that they were encouraged by brothers of the Sigma Pi fraternity to complete the “LeBron James task,” which they called a tradition.

Officials also say the men were allegedly coached by members of the fraternity to lie to law enforcement to protect the organization.

No member of the organization reportedly encouraged the pledges to contact police either, says the incident report.

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities said the students involved in the incident violated the UCF ‘Golden Rules’ and Florida State Statute.

The fraternity will be placed under suspension until its hearing on Thursday, March 15.

There is no threat to campus, police said Wednesday.
