Kimberly McSwain was formerly charged Monday with smuggling contraband/introduction of contraband into a detention facility, according to the Sumter County Sheriff's office news release.

McSwain allegedly was giving an inmate food, cigarettes and chewing tobacco, the news release stated.

She is facing a $20,000 bond and she was fired from the detention center on March 12, 2018, according to the news release.

The news release did not state who the inmate was and Michelle Keszey, the media relations person for the Sheriff's Office, told Spectrum News 13 she is not aware if McSwain received anything in exchange for the contraband.

Keszey also said that the detention center told her that since this is an active investigation, additional information is limited and cannot be revealed at this time.
