There is nothing like the sound of the pitter-patter of little feet, except in Brevard Zoo, it is hooves and the newborn is a more than 6-foot giraffe.

  • Unnamed calf, mother doing fine
  • Took first steps minutes after birth

On Saturday, Milenna, a 16-year-old giraffe, finally gave birth to a son, who weighs 148 pounds and he is 6 foot, 3.5 inches tall. After all, Milenna was pregnant between 13 to 15 months.

After a couple of tries on wobbly legs, the newborn was able to take his first steps. Although, he is not the only "little" one Milenna has. She gave birth to his brother Greg in March of 2016.

The unnamed calf will not be alone, since he has many siblings. His dad, 19-year-old Rafiki, has fathered all 11 calves born at the zoo.

Both Milenna and the calf are doing fine, especially after he fell 6 feet during birth, which is normal for a giraffe.

However, both mom and baby will be behind the scenes for the next few weeks before going back out into the public.
