An Orlando Fire Department bomb squad and hazmat team responded to the mall, where more than three dozen military shell casings were uncovered.

Firefighters and Orlando Police blocked off parking lots at the East Colonial Drive mall during the investigation.

Construction work continued during that time, officials said. No one was hurt.

Patrick Air Force Base personnel took possession of the shell casings, firefighters said.

Orlando Fashion Square filed for bankruptcy protection in January 2017. The 80-acre site is undergoing a revamp to add more retail shops, restaurants, a hotel, and residential properties.

The mall property is also adjacent to the former Naval Training Center, which was razed to build Baldwin Park. The NTC closed in the mid-1990s, and the Defense Department turned over the property to the city of Orlando for Baldwin Park.
