A man who says he was the best friend of a Lake County man who went missing in 2015 said he's in shock after authorities discovered human remains at his friend’s home.

Scott Amatuccio said he called authorities to report his friend missing. The last time he saw 36-year-old Michael Shaver was in October 2015.

He told authorities he, nor Shaver's family, had heard from him since then.

"We just chalked it off as maybe he just moved on with his life for some reason and cut ties with people he was close with," Amatuccio said.

Amatuccio said he filed a missing persons report after things weren't making sense.

"What really gave me a gut-wrenching feeling is hearing about the fire pit that was outside that went in a few months after I had last saw Mike," Amatuccio said. "He loved his kids very much. He was very family oriented. He was never the type of guy to get up one day and disappear, especially with two kids like that."

The Lake County Sheriff's Office said in February when they asked Mike's wife if they could search the property with cadaver dogs, she told them to leave.

Last week, the Lake County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant at Shaver's house in Clermont and spent two days digging in the backyard.

They say under a fire pit they found a human upper arm bone along with additional remains and clothing.

Authorities are waiting on positive identification of the remains.

"I was Mike's best man at their wedding, and it all seems like a nightmare right now, and I'm still kind of in shock, and I'm kind of numb about it," Amatuccio said.

Authorities say Mike's wife Laurie Shaver is a person of interest.

Her attorney said Thursday there's no charges, and she hasn't committed any crimes.
