A Road Ranger checking on two successive crashes was struck by a vehicle on State Road 417 Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 9 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Boggy Creek Road toll booth.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes, the Road Ranger had stopped to check on a two-vehicle crash when a second crash happened just about 50 feet south of the first crash.

The Road Ranger, later identified as 56-year-old George Wright of Montverde, went to check on the people involved in the second crash when he was struck.

Wright incurred a broken ribs and pelvis was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition, Montes said.

The driver of the 2013 four-door Chevrolet, a 39-year-old Orlando man, was unhurt.

The crash is under investigation, and charges are pending, troopers said.
