The Parkland shooting has changed the way Lake Mary High School administrators are responding to a note threatening violence Tuesday at the school that was deemed not credible.

Principal Mickey Reynolds said the threat was found scribbled on a wall inside a girls bathroom stall 11 days ago and was found not to be credible.

It listed Feb. 20 as a target date for violence at the school.

But because of the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School that left 17 people dead, Reynolds sent an email to parents and guardians Monday afternoon spelling out several security procedures taking place.

In the note, Reynolds says the school could not find the source of the note but that “I do not believe that your children, nor any other members of our school community, will be in danger tomorrow.”

"Everyone is scared and on edge, and rightfully so," she continues.

Shonte Elias’s son and daughter both go to Lake Mary High School.

“Your kids go to school, and you want them to be safe,” Elias said.

But Elias said she’s keeping both of her children home from school on Tuesday.

“It’s something I’m taking seriously whether it’s credible or not, I don’t want to send my child to school tomorrow,” Elias said. “They’re going to be home.”

Reynolds is in the process of ordering electronic locks for doors to the school and will limit access in and out until those are installed. Additionally, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is adding an extra school resource deputy at the school when classes resume Tuesday from the Presidents Day holiday.
