Residents of Osceola and Polk counties had the chance to choose the Republican candidate for a special election in Florida House District 39.

Josie Tomkow beat Jennifer Spath, 64-36. Tomkow will now face Democrat Ricky Shirah in the general election May 1.

The primary is meant to replace Florida Rep. Neil Combee, who has left the legislature to work in the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Trump administration.

The district covers west Kissimmee and Celebration, along with Polk County from the northwestern part down around Kathleen, down into Polk City and Auburndale. SEE a detailed district map
