A popular Lake County farmer's market is staying in business.

  • Council reportedly approves market 3 months at a time
  • Lake County farmer's market held on Montrose St.

Clermont City Council members voted yes Tuesday night to Clermont Downtown Partnership's request to continue hosting the farmer's market.

Arlene Guess said she was going to sell her home decor business if council members didn't approve the request.

She said the farmer's market that's held on Montrose Street every Sunday brings in one-third of her revenue.

"We needed a 12-month window that we can operate and now we finally got it, because three months is just not enough," said Guess.

Business owners said the council had only been approving the market for three months at a time after newer businesses complained about it to city officials, but no one at Tuesday's meeting spoke against it.

"It ended up being a whole lot better than we thought it would be. There was just nothing negative this time and that’s a great thing," she said.

Clermont Downtown Partnership officials said they were going to stop hosting the market if council didn't approve the year request, which would have put the future of the farmer’s market in jeopardy.

The Clermont Downtown Partnership said it’s made several changes to the market since this all started and agreed to give the city council regular updates.
