For the family of Sade Dixon, a young woman shot and killed in front of her family’s home allegedly by the same man who — while on the run — shot and killed Police Lieutenant Debra Clayton, Jan. 9 marks another day full of terror.

“It was like fear all over again, ‘cause we didn’t know what this man was thinking,” said shooting victim Sade Dixon’s mother Stephanie Dixon-Daniels.

On the night of Dec. 13, 2016, investigators say Sade’s ex-boyfriend, Markeith Loyd shot Sade’s brother, wounding him before he shot and killed Sade. She was two months pregnant at the time.

“She was everything to me,” Sade’s mother said.

Wanted posters went up with Loyd’s face on it, but he evaded arrest for another three weeks.

Then on Jan. 9, one year ago, investigators say Loyd killed again, this time hitting Orlando Police Lieutenant Debra Clayton, who recognized him as a wanted man.

“My heart always goes out to the Clayton family,” Dixon-Daniels said. "I was like ... Another life taken away by this monster?"

While an area wide man-hunt ensued, the Dixon-Daniels family fled their home. Nine days following Clayton's death, Marketh Loyd was captured and arrested.

While relieved, one year has given time for Sade Dixon’s family to reflect on a month of terror they will never erase. They are bound to another family forever, connected in tragedy.

“A life was taken for no reason whatsoever, because if you had put the same efforts into finding him the first time, Lt. Clayton would still be alive,” Dixon-Daniels said.

Markeith Loyd faces first degree murder charges of Sade Dixon and her unborn child.

Sade’s family said they want him to face the maximum penalty — death.

That trial is set to begin in September.
