At least 43 people were displaced after a fire at a west Orlando apartment complex, according to the Orlando Fire Department.

  • Dozens displaced by apartment fire
  • No injuries reported
  • Red Cross contacted to help displaced residents

The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. Saturday at the Windsor Cove Apartments off Mercy Drive.

When firefighters arrived, they saw flames going through the roof of the complex, authorities said.

The fire displaced 18 adults and 30 children, according to department spokeswoman Ashley Papagni. Twelve unites were damaged in the blaze.

No one was taken to a hospital, but a child was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, authorities said.

Investigators determined that the fire was started by a child who was lighting pieces of paper with a space heater inside one of the apartment units, authorities said. The child will be placed in a fire-starter intervention program.

The American Red Cross was contacted to help the residents who were displaced.
