Daytona Beach firefighters fought a house fire Thursday afternoon, which they say was possibly caused by a space heater.

The fire happened at a two-story home on 314 Magnolia Avenue. Firefighters arrived at 12:35 p.m. and said heavy smoke and flames came out from the second story of the home.

According to a news release, one of the residents of the home told firefighters that they were using a space heater, which he says he believes caused the fire.

Although firefighters worked quickly to get the fire under control, two dogs weren’t able to get out of the house and were killed during the fire.

The two individuals living in the home got out safely and were transported to Halifax Hospital.
