DeLand police need help finding whoever tagged several downtown buildings with graffitti, including a popular photo spot.

  • Between Monday and Tuesday, at least a dozen DeLand buildings were tagged
  • Among the things vandalized was the photo spot "DeLand Wings"
  • Police are hoping surveillance video will lead to the vandal

DeLand police say sometime between Monday and Tuesday, at least a dozen or so buildings were hit downtown.

"It just makes for a very uncomfortable feeling in the pit of your stomach," said Don Liska, whose business, Sweet Lics, was tagged.

Walls, doors and utility boxes were tagged with words that are hard to make out.

"I don't know if it's a gang symbol," Liska said. "I don't know if it's just a creative person trying to express himself in a negative way."

One of the places defaced, "Deland Wings," is a well-known spot many drive to from all over just to get a picture.

It meant something special to visitor Sarah Millis.

"It is really bad that someone would put graffiti on 'Wings.' They mean a lot to a lot of people, and for me they meant my mother," said Millis.

Millis' mother passed last month.

She had taken her picture at the wings. Green paint now covers up the graffiti.

But police believe cameras might help solve the case, and uncover whoever did this.

"I'm hoping they will catch these perpertrators and do some community service for us at the very least," Liska said.

Police say this is a low crime area, quiet and quaint, so very unsual activity. They are asking for your help. If you know who did this or have any information, you can remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-277-TIPS.
