IRMA: Central Florida sandbag locations

As Hurricane Irma continues to gain strength in the Atlantic, counties in the Central Florida area have begun to offer sandbag locations.

Lake County has run out sandbags at any of its county pickup locations — at least 23,000 of them.

If you need help in Lake County, call the citizens information line at 352-253-9999.

We’ll update this page as more counties announce sandbag locations.

BREVARD COUNTY

Starting Friday, Sept. 8 the South Brevard area distribution site for sandbags will be located in the parking lot of the Palm Bay Campus at Eastern Florida State College, located at 250 Community College Pkwy SE, Palm Bay. 

Four other locations will be open for distribution starting at 8 a.m. through 6 p.m. Friday and for the same hours on Saturday or until supplies are gone. 

The four locations are: 

North Brevard area

  • Chain of Lakes Park, 2300 Truman Scarborough Way, Titusville

Merritt Island and Beaches

  • Mitchell Ellington Park, 575 Hall Road, Merritt Island

Central Brevard Area

  • Calvary Chapel Church, 2852 Fellowship Place, Viera

South Brevard Area

  • Eastern Florida State College-Palm Bay campus, 250 Community College Parkway SE, Palm Bay

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office will begin distributing sandbags starting Wednesday, Sept. 6.

The locations will open at 8 a.m. and continue distribution through 6 p.m. Sandbags will be available during the same hours on Thrusday, Friday and Saturday while supplies last.

There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.

Melbourne

Sandbags will be available for Melbourne residents from Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, until 4 p.m., and again Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, from 8 a.m. until noon.

Up to 10-filled bags will be available per vehicle with proof of residency.

FLAGLER COUNTY

Palm Coast

Palm Coast sand stations open at the following locations. Residents should bring their own shovels.  

  • Self-service sand station and bags are available during daylight hours at Palm Coast Public Works, 1 Wellfield Grade, off U.S. 1 just north of Palm Coast Parkway.

  • Empty sandbags (but no sand) are available during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave., and the Palm Coast Utility Department, 2 Utility Drive, Palm Coast.

Empty sandbags can be filled at three additional self-service sand stations:

  • Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast
  • Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast
  • Seminole Woods Neighborhood Park, 350 Sesame Blvd., Palm Coast

LAKE COUNTY

Sandbag stations open Wednesday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 8 from 8 a.m. until dark.

Sandbags will be available to residents at no cost. Sand, bags, shovels will be on site. There's a limit of 10 sandbags per resident.

Dunnellon

Apopka

    Sand and a minimum of 10,000 bags will be available starting Wednesday.
    8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    Drivers should enter the site from the east, along North Highland Avenue, and exit south onto East First Street.
    Residents can make up to 10 bags of sand.

Orlando

The city of Orlando will have sandbag locations available Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. — 7 p.m.

Due on West Gore Street, residents are advised to use the following routes to access Woods Avenue:

Coming from the West:  Take Orange Blossom Trail to Columbia Street.  Head east on Columbia until you get Woods, then take a left to head north on Woods Avenue.

Coming from the East:  Take South Westmoreland Drive to Columbia Street.  Head west on Columbia until you get Woods, then take a right to head north on Woods Avenue.

Maitland

Update: (Thursday, Sept. 07, 2017, 4:30 p.m.) — Maitland has canceled Friday's distribution of sandbags. No more sandbags are available. 

Previous info: The city will give out sandbags to Maitland residents only and while supplies last on Thursday, Sept. 7, and Friday, Sept. 8, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is 10 bags per residents and identification is required. Self-serve and residents should bring their own gloves and shovels.

Winter Park

The city stated on Thursday that more than 16,000 sandbags were given out, but officials say they have ran out of sandbags and the city will not be getting another shipment before Hurricane Irma arrives.

OSCEOLA COUNTY

Officials with the Osceola County government do not have any requirements on their website for obtaining sandbags, but they do have a distribution map

Daytona Beach

The City of Daytona Beach has sandbags available at the Public Works facility on 950 Bellevue Avenue.  

There is a limit of 10 bags per vehicle.

DeLand

Sand and bags will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. There will be five bags per vehicle and identification is required.

Shovels will be on site and city workers will be available to assist residents. The sandbag location is in the parking lot south of Conrad Park:

Deltona

The City of Deltona will have sand and bags available to residents from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, and Friday, Sept. 8. There's a limite of 10 bags per resident. Residents can take bags and either fill them on site or with their own dirt.

DeBary
 
The city will have sand and sandbags until 5 p.m., but residents must have their own shovel and fill their own Bags. Valid identification is required.

Edgewater

Sand will be available in the following locations 24 hours a day. Residents must provide their own bags and bring their own shovels and there is a limit of 10 bags per household. ID is requred.

Holly Hill
Holly Hill will have sand and bags available until 5 p.m. Residents must provide their own shovel and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 bags per resident. Valid identification is required.

New Smyrna Beach
New Smyrna Beach will have sand and bags available from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Residents must bring their own shovels and fill their own bags. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household. Valid identification is required. Sandbags are free for New Smyrna Beach residents and will be available until further notice.

Orange City

Orange City will have sandbags available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6. Sand and bags will be provided. Residents must bring their own shovel. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household. Identification are required.

Ormond Beach
Ormond Beach will not have sand bags available on Friday, Sept. 8. Residents must provide identification. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per vehicle.

Palm Coast
Sand stations are self-serve; residents should bring their own heavy-duty trash bags and shovels and be prepared to fill their own bags. Sand is available during daylight hours at the following locations:
  • Palm Coast Public Works, 1 Wellfield Grade, off U.S. 1 just north of Palm Coast Parkway
  • Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive
  • Indian Trails Sports Complex, 5455 Belle Terre Pkwy.

Ponce Inlet
The Town of Ponce Inlet does not have any sand or sandbags at this time. Ponce Inlet will send an update if and when sand becomes available.
 
Port Orange
The city will have sand and bags available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily at the following locations:
