If you have driven on the eastbound side of Interstate 4 heading into downtown Orlando recently, you may have noticed that something was missing.

  • Orlando sign missing from the bridge over I-4
  • Irma blew the fence with the lettering down
  • City plans to reinstall the lettering

We’re talking about the “Orlando” sign that essentially welcomes you to the City Beautiful.

So, what happened to it? Is it part of the I-4 Ultimate Project?

The answer is no.

In fact, officials told us that particular bridge is owned and maintained by the city of Orlando.  It is not part of the project and will therefore not be changed.

However, it turns out that Hurricane Irma is responsible for the sign’s absence.

In fact, the city of Orlando said, “We have learned that the fence that the lettering was attached to blew down during the hurricane. We have the letters and will be reinstalling them; there is not a time frame as of right now.”
