IRMA: Orange County officials: Avoid contact with bodies of water

Orange County officials are urging residents to avoid contact with all bodies of water because they could be contaminated in the wake of Irma.

The county says lakes and rivers were adversely impacted by Hurricane Irma and may contain wildlife and submerged items. It's warning people not to use the bodies of water for recreation and to avoid contact.

Hurricane Irma made landfall on Marco Island late Sunday, Sept. 10 and traveled north. Its eye crossed over the Orange-Lake County border early Monday morning. The storm knocked out power to millions across the state, and municipal pump stations from Brevard to Orange counties were taxed with stormwater, flooding sewer systems.

The lake and river advisory is until further notice.
