Jennifer Harman is prepping her third grade classroom at Cape View Elementary before the first day of school.

It’s an especially big year for the school, which in one year brought its school grade up from a "C" to an "A."

“It’s absolutely phenomenal. When I saw the email that we had achieved that 'A' status, I texted everyone in my phone. It was just a really proud moment,” Harman said.

But Cape View isn’t the only school in the district that’s made improvements. The district says school grades across the county are improving.

"A" ranking schools rose from 34 to 40 percent and "B" ranking schools rose from 26 to 30 percent.

These increases in rankings all contributed to improving the district’s overall grade to an "A" last school year.

For schools like Cape View, they’re excited to see the growth it will bring to the county.

“I think when parents move to a new district or area, one of their concerns is quality schools. Now it’s so nice to have that 'A' so they know Cape View Elementary is a very good school to attend. It’s a good school to come to if you live here or want to come to Brevard County,” Cape View Principal Jill Keane said.

Students at Cape View and throughout the district will start the new school year this Thursday.

“I’m just so excited for the new year and the new students we will have here at Cape View. We really have tried to create a loving and coaching environment for our students here,” Harman said.

Along with their achievements in improving school rankings, Brevard Public Schools was named one of the top 14 large Florida school districts in college and career acceleration.
