One of the year's most-buzzed about indie movies will open in Central Florida this fall.

  • 'The Florida Project' screening at Enzian Theater in Maitland
  • Filmed mostly in Osceola County, near Disney World

“The Florida Project,” which was filmed in Osceola County near Walt Disney World, will play at Enzian Theater on Oct. 12.

The Enzian hasn’t announced specific times for the screenings.

Directed by Sean Baker (“Tangerine”), “The Florida Project” follows 6-year-old Moonee (Brooklynn Prince) and her group of friends who create their own “magic” and adventures while living in poverty-stricken motels near “The Most Magical Place on Earth.”

Willem Dafoe stars as Bobby, the manager of one of the motels.

Much like 2015’s “Tangerine,” the film shines a light on social issues—this time, poverty and homelessness.

Since screening at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival in May, “The Florida Project” has been generating Oscar buzz. Especially for Dafoe, with many early reviews praising his performance.

A24, the same company behind the Oscar-winning “Moonlight,” is releasing the film.

The first official trailer for “The Florida Project” was released earlier this month. It features several familiar Orlando-area sights, including Orange World.
