Commissioners in Lake County decided to take no further action concerning the residency eligibility of Eustis Commissioner Anthony Sabatini.

For hours Thursday, Eustis City commissioners discussed concerns about Sabatini's eligibility to hold office after a group of commissioners raised concerns last month.

"Tried to find documents showing that I wasn’t a resident of Eustis, even though I've lived here nearly my entire life," said Sabatini.

Commissioners hired outside legal counsel to review documents and give a legal opinion.

“The residency requirements under our charter says you have to be a resident of Eustis for 2 years. At this point they believe he didn’t meet the time limit requirement," said city manager Ronald Neibert.

Several of Sabitini’s supporters showed up to Thursday’s commission meeting.

Commissioners had three options -- hold a public hearing, sue Sabatini and have a judge decide or do nothing.

Commissioners voted to take no further action concerning his eligibility, but city officials say a citizen can sue if they want.
