Early Monday morning, a Volusia County Sheriff's Office deputy struck and injured a 16-year-old girl in DeLand, according to officials.

The accident happened at around 5:55 a.m. at West New York Avenue and Stetson Park Drive, when the girl "ran into the road without noticing the coming" deputy, the sheriff's office stated.

The girl was transported to Florida Hospital DeLand for minor injuries, officials stated, adding that the deputy was OK.

The Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash.
