Several businesses are coming together to show support for Officer Matthew Baxter and Sergeant Sam Howard, two Kissimmee police officers who lost their lives over the weekend.

  • Businesses honoring fallen officers
  • Broadway Pizza Bar donating pizza to police
  • Florist making blue and black ribbons

“We as business owners are here for it,” said Chris Sutphen, owner of Broadway Pizza Bar. “We’re not just here to make food or sell stuff. We’re here to support the community and that’s really what it’s all about. It really is.”

From a great display of solidarity at a memorial outside of the Kissimmee Police Department to messages of love in building windows, the Kissimmee community is banding together.

Broadway Pizza Bar has been donating pizza and pasta to police all week – with something special inside. Each of the pizzas has a uniquely crafted message to honor both fallen officers.

“It is in tragic events that people do kind of put all of their differences aside and pull together for the greater good, I just wish there was more of it,” Sutphen said.

Kim Dorsey the owner of a local florist shop says she hasn’t stopped making black and blue bows since Saturday. She’s giving them away to anyone who walks in the door or requests some.

“It just touches my heart that there are so many good people that want to support our police officers especially in this time,” Dorsey said. “And it’s just overwhelming that’s why I am not going to stop until I have to.”

St. Cloud Printing has designed t-shirts that say “Blue Lives Matter.” All the funds made from selling the shirts will go to the officers’ families.

“Everybody out there is getting together and doing whatever they can do to help,” said Lynn Caruso, owner of St. Cloud Printing. “Every penny that is collected for these families will benefit them.”

Creative Printing in St. Cloud has also seen a steady stream of people wanting to help and donate. The print shop made signs, bumper stickers and posters that read "Back the Black."

“We want people to be able to show their support for them, and we want to help people do that, but also then collect these donations to give to the families," said Dwight Loeding, Creative Printing owner.

Business owners say they want to be louder than the haters, so law enforcement can be more confident and know how much they’re loved here.

A fundraiser called “Back the Blue Market” was held Wednesday night in downtown Kissimmee.

"When our officers, Officer Baxter and Sgt. Howard were killed, it was shocking, it took the wind out of us," said Jeremy Lanier & Bonnie Bennett, the owners of Kissimmee Rocks.

They set up a table where kids and adults could paint rocks with messages of love and hope.

“This one that we have for KPD," said Bonnie. " We are going to take down to the memorial this afternoon."

Their table was just one of several lining Dakin Street.

Wednesday's event is just one of many planned to help. On Friday, in the same location, 3 Sister's Speakeasy will also host a charity event for the families and KPD.
