The man who caused panic at Orlando International Airport in May by wielding what was thought was a gun will spend 10 months in jail after pleading no contest.

According to Orange County court records, Michael Wayne Pettigrew pleaded nolo contendre to charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed weapon.

The 26-year-old was arrested and charged after investigators say on May 30, he pointed a fake gun at officers and then himself as people ran for cover at the rental car area of Terminal A at the airport.

"Passengers... were running in all directions, making it a little chaotic," an arrest affidavit at the time stated.

Pettigrew served in the Marine Corps from 2009 to 2012, according to Orlando Police, who said the man was in mental distress. Chief John Mina said Pettigrew wanted officers to shoot him in an effort to die by "suicide by cop."
