An early evening storm along with the possible touchdown of a tornado left damage scattered across several Rockledge neighborhoods Friday evening.

At 6:51 p.m. a thunderstorm capable of creating a tornado was located over Rockledge, and a warning was issued.

The storm's passage caused damage to area homes' roofs, carports and trees. Residents said everything happened very quickly.

"It's hard to imagine that much damage done so quickly," said Margie Myles. "The roof off my carport flew in the back yard, hit the back of my house. It's just ... I tell you, it's just, you never can imagine or prepare for."

The warning ended at 7:15 p.m.

Highs reached the low to mid-90s this afternoon, but it felt more like 100 with the humidity factored in. We had heavy inland thunderstorms that produced torrential rain, frequent lightning, and brief gusty winds. Showers and storms will continue to taper off due to the loss of daytime heating with a quiet, warm, and muggy overnight to follow; lows will fall to the mid 70s.

Over the weekend, we can expect more hot and humid conditions with shower and storm activity becoming more isolated during the afternoons. Highs will reach the low to mid-90s each day.

In the tropics, the one named system is Tropical Storm Harvey. This poses no threat to Florida or the United States at this time. There are a few other tropical waves being investigated for potential development, but they are in the open waters of the Central Atlantic right now with no direct threat to land. Both will soon enter into a more favorable environment for gradual development.

If you are taking the boat out tomorrow, conditions will be favorable early on in the day before scattered showers and storms pose a hazard in the afternoon. Along the Intracoastal Waterway, expect a moderate chop. Swimmers and surfers are encouraged to stay near a lifeguard due to the moderate risk of rip currents and with the elevated heated indices you will want to be sure not to forget the sunscreen!
