Tropical Storm Harvey formed in the western Atlantic Thursday afternoon and is quickly moving toward the Lesser Antilles. It is the eighth named storm in the Atlantic this season.

Harvey was upgraded from Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine. It is the eighth named storm in the Atlantic this season.

Winds are 40 mph, with higher gusts as Harvey moves west at 18 mph. It is located about 140 miles east of Barbados.

Tropical storm warnings continue for Martinique, Barbados, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Lucia. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Dominica.

Harvey will continue to churn westward and will impact part of the Lesser Antilles on Friday. It will then push into the Caribbean Sea and head toward Central America. It is expected to intensify into a strong tropical storm as it nears the Central American coastline early next week.

Harvey will not impact Florida or the United States. However, interests in the Lesser Antilles and Central America should pay close attention to future forecasts.

There are a couple other tropical waves being investigated for potential development, but they are in the open waters of the Central Atlantic at this time. Both will soon enter more favorable waters for intensification.

We’ll watch both of these as they travel either west or northwest, but there is no imminent threat to the United States at this time.
