A man accused of firing his gun at an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy last week has been caught and is facing an attempted first-degree murder charge among others, stated Orange County Sheriff's Office.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office stated that Tyrese Cooper was arrested Monday night in Polk County.

The sheriff’s office stated 18-year-old Cooper was a passenger in a white Honda Accord that was being followed by an unmarked sheriff’s deputy vehicle on Monday, Aug. 7, in the Pine Hills area near the 2600 block of Wyndham Lane.

Investigators stated the driver’s side window came down and Cooper began firing multiple shots at the deputy, who was not hit.

Instead, the bullets went right through a home and into a bedroom where the residents were sleeping. No one was hurt.

Cooper and three others, Leonaldo Gourdet Jr., Richie Pierre and Matthew Jerome, in the vehicle did drive away. However, the Honda Accord was ditched a short distance away. Cooper's associates were caught.

Cooper is facing the following charges:

  • Attempted first-degree murder of law enforcement.
  • Aggravated assault with a firearm (pointing or displaying firearm at law enforcement)
  • Burglary of a structure
  • Resisting without violence
