Tropical Storm Gert is now Hurricane Gert, the second hurricane of the season.

Gert will stay well east of Florida and won't impact the state.

As of 11 p.m. ET Monday, the center of Hurricane Gert was about 445 miles west of Bermuda.

Gert is moving toward the north at 8 mph. A turn toward the north-northeast is expected sometime tonight.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to 75 mph with higher gusts. 

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 986 mb.

The system will be capable of creating rough surf and enhanced rip currents across the Carolinas up through Long Island, New York.
