Tropical Depression Eight was upgraded to Tropical Storm Gert on Sunday, becoming the seventh named storm of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season.

The system will not impact Central Florida or the state.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday EST, the center of Tropical Storm Gert was located about 485 miles west-southwest of Bermuda.

Gert is moving toward the north-northwest near 9 mph. A turn toward the north is forecast to occur overnight followed by a turn toward the north-northeast by Monday night.

Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Gert could become a hurricane by Wednesday.

Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1,009 mb.

Gert is expected to become a post-tropical low later in the week.

The system will be capable of creating rough surf and enhanced rip currents across the Carolinas.

Gert will stay well east of Florida and will not impact the state.
