Here's the Central Florida weather forecast for Sunday evening and the upcoming workweek:

It was a hot and humid Sunday with scattered showers and storms. Highs climbed into the upper 80s and low 90s.

Overnight will be mainly quiet, warm and muggy with temperatures in the mid 70s. For your back-to-school Monday, we will be hot and humid with another round of showers and storms in the afternoon. Temperatures will settle into the low to mid 90s once again.

Scattered showers and storms were the case for Sunday afternoon. Activity will continue to taper off before midnight, giving way to a warm and muggy overnight with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 70s.

With tomorrow being the first day of school for the rest of Central Florida, you will want to make sure everyone stays hydrated as temperatures will climb into the low to mid 90s. A mix of sun and clouds will start us out followed by a 40 percent for scattered showers and storms developing in the afternoon. This pattern of high heat and scattered afternoon storms will hold through the week ahead.

In the tropics, Tropical Depression Eight in the western Atlantic Ocean has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Gert as of 5 p.m. Sunday. Gert isn't expected to make landfall or pose any threat to Central Florida or land in general.

Another wave we are watching is Invest 91-L. It's expected to merge with a broad low pressure area just southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands over the next two days. Environmental conditions could become more conducive for development by the middle of the week as it moves westward across the Atlantic Ocean at 15 mph.

If you're heading out on the Intracoastal Waterway tomorrow with the boat, expect a light chop and overall favorable conditions. Scattered storms could pose a hazard in the afternoon. Heading out to the beaches? Wave heights will be 2-3 feet, resulting in fair surfing conditions. With a moderate risk for rip currents, it is always safe to stay near a lifeguard. The UV index will be elevated again, so don't forget the sunscreen.
