Deputies received a call at about 9:57 a.m. about a medical regarding a man possibly suffering a heart attack.

When Orange County Fire Rescue crews arrived at the home near 33 W. Celeste St., they found Elkin DeJesus Ramirez with trauma to his body, said Deputy Ingrid Tejada-Monforte, a spokeswoman with the Sheriff's Office.

Ramirez's death is now being investigated as a homicide, Tejada-Monforte said.

"At this time, we're not searching for anyone," she said, adding that several deputies will remain in the area. "At this time, we are working to determine a suspect. I will provide more information as it becomes available."

The man who died was "in the area to do some work," Tejada-Monforte said, though the scope of work remains unclear. A person claiming to be the victim's son said his father was an electrician.

Deputies at the scene said it was a shooting investigation, but Tejada-Monforte said the cause of death isn't being released at this time.

Sheila Mott, who lives adjacent on West Celeste Street, said she heard several shots just before 10 a.m.

"It's scary," she said. "It's very, very scary."

Deputies ask anyone that anyone with information on what happened between 9 and  10 a.m. to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office or Crimeline at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
