The menus at Universal's Volcano Bay are a little slimmer these days.

Almost 30 food items have been removed from restaurants across the water theme park.

When Volcano Bay opened in May, park officials highlighted the park's dining options, saying it would have "more than 60 island-themed items" available. The latest changes cut that number down to nearly half.

Most of the items that have been removed were dishes tied to the "South Pacific" theme of the park, such as the poke poke bowl and the Hawaiian ribs. Now, the restaurants are serving more traditional theme-park food such as hamburgers, hot dogs and nachos.

The park features four quick-service locations — Bambu Restaurant, The Feasting Frog, Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club and Whakawaiwai Eats — and two bars.

The menu for Bambu included three specialty burgers — a Reka Burger, a Bambu Burger and a Quinoa Edamame Burger — as well as a chicken sandwich, Waturi mahi sandwich, chicken tenders and a pretzel dog.

On the modified menu, the specialty burgers have been replaced with a bacon cheeseburger. The pretzel dog also has been removed.

The Feasting Frog featured specialty tacos, but it now only offers hot dogs, nachos and corn dogs.

Classic mac and cheese and an island barbecue chicken pizza have been removed from Whakawaiwai Eats.

Several items were removed from Kohola Reef Restaurant & Social Club. Those items include smoked glazed chicken, jerk mahi sandwich, specialty burgers, a chicken and ribs combo and a few sides.

"Volcano Bay is a brand new water theme park, and it's natural for us to refine and adjust some of the details as we go," a Universal spokeswoman said in an email. "This includes our restaurant menus."

Many of the healthier food options, such as the salads and wraps, remain in place.

Universal's website has been updated to reflect the new menus.

Since its opening, Volcano Bay has faced problems typical of opening a theme park, including long lines and wait times. Many visitors have shared frustration with the park's virtual line technology. It is summer, and the park is often packed, reaching capacity almost daily.

Universal spokesman Tom Schroder said the company is aware of the frustrations but insisted things have improved since May 25, Volcano Bay's grand opening.
