A revamped Mission: Space is set to “relaunch” Aug. 13, Walt Disney World announced Thursday.

  • Mission: Space in Epcot reopens Aug. 13
  • Updates to Orange and Green mission
  • Younger riders can now experience attraction

The Epcot attraction will feature a new experience and an “enhanced” version of the ride.

Mission: Space allows guests to simulate going through NASA-style training and travel through space aboard a rocket during a designated mission: Orange (more intense) or Green (less intense).

The Orange Mission will feature a new HD video. It will provide a clearer view, as riders dodge meteoroids, slingshot around the moon and attempt a Mars landing.

The revamped Green Mission — it’s more family-friendly — takes riders on an orbit around Earth. During this new experience, riders can view places such as Italy’s “boot,” the Northern Lights and the Hawaiian Islands as though they’re in space. The mission will end with a landing at Kennedy Space Center.

Another update to Mission: Space is the height restriction. Again, it's been made more family-friendly, meaning younger riders can now experience the attraction. X-2 booster seats will allow children between 40 and 44 inches to experience the Green Mission.

Mission: Space’s reopening also marks the end of Ellen’s Energy Adventure in the nearby Universe of Energy, which closes Aug. 13. During the D23 Expo, Disney announced a Guardians of the Galaxy attraction would take Ellen’s place.
