Volusia beach officials are flying red and purple flags Sunday.

  • Beach goers to be cautious
  • 60 minor jelly fish stings occurred
  • 30 rip current rescues occurred

They said there were 60 minor jellyfish stings Saturday.

Lifeguards also had to rescue nearly 30 people due to rip current conditions.

That's why beach officials are urging beachgoers to extra cautious this weekend.

“You see a lot of the jelly fish that wash up on the beaches and stuff so if I was to go out there right now that'll be the first thing I check to see what I'm going to be stepping on,” said Thomas Byrd, beachgoer.

Each lifeguard tower and beach safety vehicle is equipped with a vinegar mixture to treat jellyfish stings.
