On the east side of Florida awaits a wild adventure, unfolding in the palm of your hand.

You don't need to go to Africa to feed giraffe, just Loxahatchee in Palm Beach County.

Guests can buy leafs of romaine lettuce, and then get the attention of the giraffe who are ready to use their gray tongues to make it disappear.

An elevated tree house at Lion Country Safari guarantees you're at the giraffe level. They don't have to bend over to eat and you can admire their big eyes and drool.

"They like to drool,” explained curator Brian Dowling with Lion Country Safari. Brian is proud to work close with the family of giraffe through positive reinforcement.

"We train them to stick them with needles to draw blood, just for health check-ups."

The family of giraffe here have 70 acres to roam.

"They go out, browse and eat leaves and be giraffe,” Brian shared. "But we provide them with the shelter, the feeder, the water troughs, but given the choice, they go out and be giraffe all night."

Lion Country Safari first gained notoriety for opening as an African preserve you can drive through. Today, the only thing separating you from the animals, including rhinos, is your car.

"We try to give them the best possible life that we can," Brain said of the animal kingdom here.
