An Orlando entrepreneur is launching an app that allows people to ask questions and get real-time answers -- and get paid too.

  • Orlando startup Askedoo launches Q&A app
  • Users post questions in video-streaming, get answers
  • Users can enter a direct session for a flat fee

But they first need to build up a community of users in the City Beautiful.

“We want this to be kind of the live-streaming, Q and A place that you go to get your questions answered," said Justin Ramb.

Ramb spent the last decade plus building his Orlando ad agency, BIGEYE. But, 18 months ago, a problem of a broken fridge -- and hefty repair bill — led to an idea for a new app.

“[The repairman] left me a bill for $150. And I said, surely, there’s got to be somebody I know that could’ve helped me with this," he said.

Users pose a question in Askedoo by video-streaming, waiting for participants to join the chat. Once they find someone knowledgeable on the topic, which can be as simple as best practices for slicing a watermelon or as complex as making mechanical repairs, they can enter a direct session for a flat fee. Askedoo takes a cut of that fee for revenue.

But, according to Ramb, the app's design is much broader. Similar to Uber, the app lets respondents tap into the “gig economy.” They turn on the app when they want and answer questions, getting tipped.

“You can jump on the app at any time, people are asking questions, you can help answer it and make a few bucks," Ramb explained.

They can also make money by hosting a topic and getting people to sign up for their broadcast.

“I envision this as a place people can come and make a lot of money answering people’s questions," said Ramb.

Askedoo, which is free to download from the app store, relies upon user engagement. They currently have about 500 users in Orlando, but hope to grow their base to one day, take it nationwide.

“We believe in the tech community, being so strong," Ramb said of launching in Orlando, continuing, "We wanted to start small. We hope it to be, kind of the next Yahoo Answers.”
