A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle that left the scene Saturday, the South Daytona Police Department said Monday.

Sterling Scott Wright was riding his bicycle, which had lights on it, on the southbound shoulder of the 2600 block of South Ridgewood Avenue in South Daytona when he was struck from the back by a vehicle going in the same direction, police stated in a news release.

According to police, a Volusia County Sheriff's Office sergeant found the 55-year-old Wright on the street at 2:48 a.m., but the Port Orange man died on his way to a hospital.

There were no witnesses to the accident, police stated.

Officials did find vehicle parts from the passenger side at the scene.
