  • CenterPoint Church handed out backpacks, school supplies to kids in need
  • This is the 7th annual event for the church

A line wrapped around the block outside CenterPoint Church in Palm Bay Saturday morning.

Abraham Torres and his two daughters were just one of hundreds of families taking part in a back to school giveaway.

“This is awesome, because most of these kids really do need this and the parents can’t afford it, so it’s an awesome thing this church does,” Torres said.

This marks the 7th annual year Centerpoint Church has handed out backpacks, school supplies, even offering haircuts and dental and eye exams for kids.

“It’s just one way we can help take some of the pressure off of the parents trying to get their kids ready for school,” Centerpoint Paster Tom Walker said.

For families like Abraham’s, he said the best part is the community engagement.

“Totally beneficial for the whole community because it brings everyone together and everyone is having a good time,” Torres said.

The church said the event has grown since their first year, reaching around a 1,000 people. This year over 5,000 people came out.
