One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on US Highway 441.

The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Friday at US 441 and NW 90th Street in Marion County. 

Troopers said Elin Peterson, 37, of Fort McCoy, was traveling northbound on US 441 and lost control of her vehicle, crossing over into the southbound lanes and into the path of a Hyundai Elantra. 

Peterson's Mitsubishi Galant collided head-on with the Hyundai causing fatal injuries to the other driver, Adrienne Simpson, 27, of Jacksonville. 

Simpson was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center where she passed away. 

Peterson received serious injuries in the crash and was also taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center. 

According to the report, charges are pending.
