The family of a hit-and-run victim in Marion County plan to hold a candlelight vigil Friday night at the scene of the crash.

  • Patricia Terry killed in a hit-and-run crash in Ocala Friday morning
  • Terry was hit by a dark pickup truck
  • Terry had passed out just before the crash, was lying in the road

On Friday morning, 59-year-old Patricia Terry died about a block from her house, near the intersection of Spring Road and Spring Loop Circle in Ocala.

"Everyone in Ocala knows who Patricia Terry is. She was a very lively person," said Terry's daughter, Drameka Brown.

Florida Highway Patrol says at about 540 a.m., Terry was lying in the road when a dark-colored pickup truck failed to stop, collided with Terry and left the scene.

Investigators don't know why Terry was lying in the road, but her sister Laura Lester has a theory. She thinks Terry passed out, because she got sick right before the accident.

"I was on the phone with 911, the paramedics to come and pick her up. But when I was on the phone with them, I heard a boom and I knew that she had got hit," said Lester.

Troopers say the intersection was lit and Terry was wearing bright red pants and a multi-colored top.

"I just want them to find whoever hit her, to come and let us know that they’re sorry or something, not just hit and keep going. That's just sad," said Lester.

If you know who the driver is, you're asked to call Marion County Crime Stoppers at 352-368-7867.
