The search continues for a man who police say hit a Windermere police SUV on Tuesday, as the officer inside the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The Ocoee Police Department stated that it is looking for Scott Edward Mitchell. According to police, Mitchell drove his 2004 Chevy Colorado into a marked Windermere Police patrol SUV at the entrance of a Hardee’s on 10840 West Colonial Drive around 7:33 a.m.

Police say Mitchell’s Colorado broadsided the police vehicle; however, officials stated that Sgt. Mark Destefano is doing OK, but is a bit sore and stiff from the crash.

Investigators say after the crash Mitchell left the scene of the accident and an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy noticed Mitchell's truck recklessly driving down State Road 50.

Police say Mitchell hit another vehicle, then ditched his Chevy Colorado near Pine Hills and he was able to avoid capture.

The deputy was able to positively identify Mitchell as the driver of the vehicle. Mitchell has a history with police from both Orange and Lake counties.

Mitchell is now faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.
