Car slams into concrete pole, splits in half in Melbourne

A car split in half Wednesday afternoon after the driver lost control in Melbourne and then slammed into a concrete pole, firefighters said.

The incident happened near the intersection of NASA Boulevard and Eddie Allen Road. Firefighters at the scene said the driver lost control in the rain and then plowed into the concrete pole.

The driver was treated at the scene, according to the Melbourne Fire Department.

Florida Power & Light was reporting about 44 customers without power in the area near the accident, but the cause of the outage was unclear. Power was estimated to be restored by about 6:30 p.m.

Traffic in the area was impacted.
