Amazon will open an 850,000-square-foot shipping warehouse in Lake Nona next year that's expected to bring 1,500 full-time jobs to the Orlando area, the company said Monday.

Workers at the "fulfillment center" will pack and ship books, electronics and consumer goods. The facility will bring Amazon's workforce in Florida to more than 9,000 since its first fulfillment center opened here in 2013.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Amazon to Central Florida, and look forward to this legendary innovator becoming a part of our community,” Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs said in a news release. “We’ve worked hard to expedite permitting and other county functions in order to get this new type of fulfillment distribution center — including Amazon Robotics and a significant investment in technology — up and running."

Tavistock Development Company sold the property on which the facility will be built and will develop the infrastructure for the project. For more information on employment, go to amazondelivers.jobs.
