  • Police say 14-year-old with gang ties fired shots
  • Report: Teenager was made about handshake

The teenager, whom News 13 isn't identifying because of crime guidelines, was arrested Thursday on two counts of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm, possession of a firearm by a delinquent felon and gang-related offenses (enhanced penalty).

Several Ocala Police officers responded May 30 to Deer Run apartments located at 2804 N.E. 4th Court to reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived they found two people with gunshot wounds. They were both transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, a police report states.

Officers searched the area and found 13 spent shell casings.

A woman who lives in a nearby apartment told officers she recognized a gray-colored Nissan sedan speed away after the shooting. She told officers it was the same Nissan she saw in a Facebook post earlier in the day.

The two shooting victims told officers they believed the shots came from inside the gray-colored Nissan, but neither could identify who fired the shots.

Later that evening, Ocala officers responded to the Berkley Point Apartments at 2867 N.E. 7th St. for another shooting. A vehicle containing four black males reportedly drove through the apartment complex and shot multiple times at someone who was standing in front of an apartment, a report states.

The woman who owns the apartment told officers she owned a gray Nissan, but she gave it to her brother to drive earlier in the night.

The woman allowed officers to search the vehicle, and they found a spent casing in the back seat.

The driver told officers he used his sister's vehicle to drive the Nissan to Deer Run on the night of the drive-by shooting. He stated other people were in the car, including the 14-year-old.

The driver told officers the 14-year-old was in the front seat and became angry "because he saw two boys doing a handshake which he ... also does," a report states.

The 14-year-old had previously been convicted as a juvenile of burglary of a dwelling, a felony. The defendant is a known member of the "MK" or "Mway" gang, according to the Ocala Police Department.
