The Central Florida Expressway Authority is moving forward with plans to extend State Road 408 in eastern Orange County.

  • Central Florida Expressway Authority considered five alternatives SR 408 routes
  • One road that might be agreed on might impact Deerwood

The expressway authority is considering five alternative routes to get from the State Road 408 to the State Road 520 and News 13 has learned it has now narrowed that down to one.

It would affect some neighborhoods, especially those in Deerwood. However, it is not a done deal yet.

While the expressway authority considers its plan, Florida Department of Transportation has its own study, potentially building a toll road along State Road 50.

If FDOT plans fall through, the expressway authority wants to make sure its plan is still viable and that is why it is continuing with its project, already spending $3 million on this extension study.

The expressway authority stated that its eventual goal is to connect the State Road 408 to Interstate 95 in Brevard County.

The expressway authority has considered several different routes to extend State Road 408 all the way out to State Road 520.

Originally, the expressway authority wanted to build a toll road along State Road 50. However, FDOT disagreed.
